How Do I Choose Books to Read

“Some books should be tasted, some devoured, but only a few should be chewed and digested thoroughly.”- Francis Bacon

How do i choose books to read

I always take sometime before I decide if I want to read a book or not because“knowledge is power is time is money”(I deliberately made that mistake so refrain from correcting it.) I’m very choosy when it comes to books or anything for that matter. No place for trash.

Coming to the point.

How do I choose books?

  • Need & Content:

I choose books just because they can fulfill my needs because of their good content. So when I want learn something or I want to know about something, I choose a book which can provide me with most of the content so that I don’t have to sit with 5 different books to learn one thing because it  is such a hassle.

  • Writer:

If I love the writer, I choose his/her book if I don’t have many good options.

  • Influences:

I also choose books written by people who influenced my favorite writers. Most of them never disappointed me, just one time when I read Sartre, his book was depressive.

  • Books mentioned inside the books:

I also read the books that are mentioned in the book that I’m reading. It’s fun. I came across many good books, this way. It’s like writer recommending you books personally.

  • Current Read:

I also choose books similar to the book that I’m reading.

  • Genre:

Best books from my favorite Genre. That is easy.

  • Buddy Read:

Sometimes I also read totally random book but I mostly do it when I’m reading that book with someone else, so that if it is a total disappointment then we can rant about it or if it turns out to be a really good book then we can always say, ohh! we discovered this beauty and we read it together, it was awesome.

  • Bookshops:

I love bookshops and I make a monthly trip to local bookstores to buy something fun, something I didn’t know about. I have favorite bookstores in different cities. So, whenever I go there, I do make a visit to these bookstores as well. Sometimes they turn out to be disappointment and sometimes I discover something good.

Oxford Bookstore, New Delhi_Their Vodka

Oxford Bookstore and Cafe, New Delhi

  • Goodreads:

I totally look up for recommendations there. I have found so many brilliant books there.

  • Recommendations:

I know few people who give top notch book recommendations. So, whenever they recommend me books then I always read them. No, point of doubt.

That’s how I choose books and I’m not gonna lie, I have also picked up books just because of an upcoming movie release and sometimes because of those OHHHHHHHHHH SO beautiful covers.

How do you choose book that you want to read? Do share with me.

Happy Reading!

Why I love Reading Books

WP_20151206_22_17_44_Pro 2“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” – Dr. Seuss

I was never a people person so I became a book person. And somehow books made me a better person and they opened up the whole world in front of me.

So what made me love reading books?

Books are magical. There are many things that made me love reading books. Like how while reading books I can visit a totally different country or a different period(who said time travel is not possible?), or fall in love with a character which is a fragment of someone else’s imagination(now how wonderful is that, right?).

Books helped me leaning new things, building stuff, books made me a better person, reading them gave me a whole new perspective, provided me with new ideas, ways to solve problems. Reading books made me grow. Books transform the person who reads them and reading helped me through depression.

Now how wonderful is that? Very.

Anything you want to learn, anything you want to know, there’s a book waiting for you. Now, we are not limited to books, there are articles, magazines, many options out there.

I love reading because books take me to another world, they make me grow as a person, they make me think, they make me imagine, they make me live a different life at least for sometime. I’m addicted to books.

And for me reading is the most agreeable way of ignoring life.

I have shared why I love reading books now tell me why you like it. Why do you like to read?

Rainy Day Reading List

What can be more wonderful than curling up with a book on a rainy day with a hot cup of coffee or tea? I can’t think of anything because for once I love rains and I love books and I always appreciate a good cup of tea or coffee.

ReadingOnARainyDayThough I can’t predict when it will rain at your place, or I can’t really prepare a cup of coffee for everyone. But I can make a list of books that you can enjoy in rains. Oh! the charm of it, ahh.

I have curated a list(not exactly a list) for everyone and I believe you will like it.

By the way, what do you prefer reading on a rainy day?

1. Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk

Add to Goodreads

“Fight Club is not football on television. You aren’t watching a bunch of men you don’t know halfway around the world beating on each other live by satellite with a two-minute delay, commercials pitching beer every ten minutes, and a pause now for station identification. After you’ve been to fight club, watching football on television is watching pornography when you could be having great sex.”

3. Shutter Island by Dennis Lehane

1. The Complete Sherlock Holmes by  Arthur Conan Doyle

“I cannot live without brainwork. What else is there to live for? Stand at the window here. Was ever such a dreary, dismal, unprofitable world? See how the yellow fog swirls down the street and drifts across the duncoloured houses. What could be more hopelessly prosaic and material?”

2. And Then They Were None by Agatha Christie

Add to Goodreads

“The amount of missing girls I’ve had to trace and their family and their friends always say the same thing. ‘She was a bright and affectionate disposition and had no men friends’. That’s never true. 1. The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald

“He smiled understandingly-much more than understandingly. It was one of those rare smiles with a quality of eternal reassurance in it, that you may come across four or five times in life. It faced–or seemed to face–the whole eternal world for an instant, and then concentrated on you with an irresistible prejudice in your favor. It understood you just as far as you wanted to be understood, believed in you as you would like to believe in yourself, and assured you that it had precisely the impression of you that, at your best, you hoped to convey.”

“When we were only acquaintances, you let me be myself, but now you’re always protecting me… I won’t be protected. I will choose for myself what is ladylike and right. To shield me is an insult. Can’t I be trusted to face the truth but I must get it second-hand through you? A woman’s place!”

4. The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde

“Those who find ugly meanings in beautiful things are corrupt without being charming. This is a fault. Those who find beautiful meanings in beautiful things are the cultivated. For these there is hope. They are the elect to whom beautiful things mean only Beauty. There is no such thing as a moral or an immoral book. Books are well written, or badly written. That is all.”

7 Inspirational Books that You should Read: Do You Really Need Them? This Will Help You Decide!

quotescover-PNG-41 Yesterday I wrote an answer to a question on Quora.

Then today I thought why not write a post similar to it. So, here it is.

There are few inspiration novels that I love and today I’m sharing with you 7 books out of many wonderful books that I love and adore.

Few of them are just brilliant and are must read books and you I’m telling you that you really need to read them(well you can decide for yourself, I was just kidding).

I consider each one of them worthy of anyone’s time.

“The Giver” by Lois Lowry

“If everything’s the same, then there aren’t any choices! I want to wake up in the morning and decide things!”

Why?The Giver had made me shed a tear more than a few times.

Think of life as black and white. The world of “sameness” and “uniformity”, where there is no love, no happiness, no sadness, no warmth, no color, no death, and no anger. This book depicts the world of dullness and monotony. Now think of a world where you assigned everything, maybe your future occupation, your life partner and whatever you can think of.

I’m not very crazy about the ending. But this book did teach me, that we need change in our world and not just the change but also the courage to make that change. This book tell you that you can do everything you set your mind to. It also make us realize that when we allow people to choose for themselves, you instill hope in them.

“Jonathan Livingston Seagull” by Richard Bach

When I was in 10th standard my English teacher suggested this book to us students and she told, that one of the person she met read this book and, he told her that, this book changed him, changed the way he think and the way he lives his life.

So,that time I decided, that I should also read this book and in 2011, I actually gave this book a read, with one another book from Richard Bach called “Illusion”.

This book is a fable and a short read, BUT a good read indeed!

Yes, as few readers complained, there is nothing new in this book. All the same stuff about will power and self imagination of limitlessness. But you know, This fable had quite a different way of defining heaven..in “perfection”, in “realization of limitless self”. Listening to your heart, and that true determination and hard practice can give you mastery in whatever field you want, the sense of effortlessness..not only to produce the results each time but to understand & conquer the principles underlying the ways which produce these results.

“..Jonathan asked to Chiang,” Well, what happens from here? Where are we going? Is there no place as heaven?” and Chiang replied, ” No, Jon, there is no such place. Heaven is not a place, and it is not even time. Heaven is being perfect. You will begin to touch heaven, Jonathan, in the moment that you touch perfect speed. And that isn’t flying a thousand miles an hour or at speed of light. Because any number is limit, and perfection doesn’t have limits. Perfect speed, my son, is being there, instantly…anywhere anytime anyplace.”

“The Time Keeper”by Mitch Albom

“It is never to late or too soon, it is when it is supposed to be.”

why? Book Review

This book basically tells you that don’t take time for granted, don’t wish it away, don’t take it in your hands. Love it or hate it, time keeps moving forward.

“Man’s Search for Meaning” by Viktor E. Frankl

“Those who have a ‘why’ to live, can bear with almost any ‘how’.”

Add to Goodreads

Why?If you ask me to make a list of 10 must read book, this book will be on the top. When I read it this book gave me a Mind Orgasm.

After reading this book, now every time I take up anything that take up a whole lot of time. I always ask myself, “Will this be meaningful to me?” and if the answer is a big “No”. I don’t do it. Save a lot of time.

The writer show us the capacity of hope. This book for me is a perspective changer.

“Outliers: The Story of Success” by Malcolm Gladwell

“Practice isn’t the thing you do once you’re good. It’s the thing you do that makes you good.”

3228917

Add to Goodreads

Why?This book is more of a influential book but let me add it to this list because perhaps it was also inspirational for me.

You do need to read this book!

I call this book, “Outliers don’t exist” because Outliers may not be Outliers after all. You’ll get to know this after reading this book.

“Walden” by Henry David Thoreau

“I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. I did not wish to live what was not life, living is so dear; nor did I wish to practice resignation, unless it was quite necessary. I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life, to live so sturdily and Spartan-like as to put to rout all that was not life, to cut a broad swath and shave close, to drive life into a corner, and reduce it to its lowest terms.”

Why?For me this book was inspiring. Since in 21st century people are living life in a rut. The opportunity to dig your way out of it and to get away so as to get in touch with nature, to discover, to really think about life sounds to me like a really good thing to do.

“Fountainhead” by Ayn Rand

“I love you so much that nothing can matter to me – not even you…Only my love- not your answer. Not even your indifference”

Why?Whether you agree with this woman or not(please say you don’t). This book is certainly enticing and enchanting. I’m not really fan of this woman, but this is one of my favorite book and it is entertaining too.

“To say “I love you” one must know first how to say the “I”.”

This book is remarkable.

I liked Howard’s struggle to resist society’s way and remain true to himself . To maintain his individuality. And I liked how the book argues that individuals, not society, makes history.

It’s a tale of triumph and defeat.

So these are the 7 inspirational novels that I wanted to share with you. Some other day I’ll add more books to this list. Till then enjoy these!

Happy Reading!

I think all the people who read romance agree on one thing that a “Romance Novel” should have an emotionally-satisfying and optimistic ending.

Well, I’ve read all these books and I really enjoyed them and keep in mind this list is not a subjective Best Ever list, but a list of books that I think will be worth your while to read in this genre.

And of course feel free to add your thoughts in comments! What did I miss? What book isn’t worth being included? And also good recommendations for me. I want to know!

And yes I’m not adding “A Walk to Remember” and “The Notebook” to this list because for me they are more than just romance novels.

After The Music by Diana Palmer

97609-23157685

IT ALL STARTED AS A JOKE…

Rock star Sabina Cane was only pretending to be engaged to her best friend, millionaire Al Thorndon. Al talked her into the scheme to trick his cynical older brother, Thorn. It seemed Al had no choice but to lie- and to make Sabina his accomplice.

But Thorn wasn’t the stuffy old businessman she’d expected. He was prickly, passionate, stubborn as a rock and liked to play matchmaker. And he had the perfect match in mind – he wanted Sabina, no matter what the cost. Didn’t he know that there are somethings money can’t buy.

Why?The books that I have read by Diana Palmer have always been good, and this book didn’t disappoint. I love her Alpha male characters. I was in need of a bit of romance and this hit the spot. Worth Reading!

One Day by David Nicholls

e29ce-6280118

Emma and Dexter meet for the first time on the night of their graduation. Tomorrow they must go their separate ways. So where will they be on this one day next year? And the year after that? And every year that follows?

Twenty years, two people, one day.

Why?I realized there would be no surefire way to describe this book. It is a complete conundrum. Readers will either love or hate this book, I don’t think there is much of a middle road with this one. Though I loved it! Book Review

Champagne Girl by Diana Palmer

e0080-23157716

Catherine makes plans and Matt always bursts her bubbles. That’s the way it has been ever since her father died and Matt inherited the family’s sprawling Texas ranch. He controls her money and tries to control her life. But the time has come to make her break from the ranch and from Matt. The perfect job awaits Catherine in New York and she’s going to take it.

Why? Unlike other books by Diana Palmer, this book do not have that bad-ass hero and as a fan of Diana Palmer I would say it is not normal, but Matt is really sweet person, and Catherine is basically clueless . But all in all this book is a good read , I also consider saying “After The Music” by Diana Palmer is outstanding in comparison to this one.But yes I guess you’ll like this one as well and it surely gonna fill your romance hunger.

Tempting Fate by Nora Roberts

a0cec-490819

Attorney Caine MacGregor had a reputation for being a demon in the courtroom – and in the bedroom. He yearned to break down Diana Blade’s icy wall of control and release the passionate woman within. When he offered Diana a partnership – in both business and pleasure – could he entice her to risk everything for the love of a MacGregor?

Why? Tempting Fate was an outstanding book of two people who are very different and very similar.

Safe Haven by Nicholas Sparks

“Love hurts. There is nothing as painful as heartbreak. But in order to learn to love again, you must learn to trust again.”

Despite her reservations, Katie slowly begins to let down her guard, putting down roots in the close-knit community and becoming increasingly attached to Alex and his family. But even as Katie begins to fall in love, she struggles with the dark secret that still haunts and terrifies her . . . a past that set her on a fearful, shattering journey across the country, to the sheltered oasis of Southport. With Jo’s emphatic and stubborn support, Katie eventually realizes that she must choose between a life of transient safety and one of riskier rewards . . . and that in the darkest hour, love is the only true safe haven.

Why? Okay how can I not add Nicholas Sparks book in a list when I’m talking about romance, well unlike other books from Nicholas Sparks, this I consider was different, it was a real page-turner. There was suspense, thrill, romance and a great twist!
